What can I say - this went triple platinum! The Brilliant team of Howard Ashman and Alan Menken made this one of the most successful sound tracks in film history. I was the first one to hear and sing the title song - it was at Alan's house as we were preparing for our first press conference. Howard was very ill and in the hospital at the time, and Alan and I literally sang it to him over the telephone. Sadly, Howard didn't live long enough to see the film's premiere, but the legacy he has left with Disney will live on and affect children for many decades to come.

The soundtrack for Beauty and the Beast was a massive critical success, receiving universal praise and recognition from both film and music critics. The music featured on the album won several awards, including the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score, the Academy Award for Best Original Score and the Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Composition Written for a Motion Picture or for Television. Its title track and only single, "Beauty and the Beast", achieved similar success, winning the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song, Academy Award for Best Original Song and Grammy Awards for both Best Song Written for Visual Media and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.
